Glossary

The words you'll see around FightBets, explained in one line each.

Betting

  • Market: One question you can bet on, like who wins a fight. Every fight on the card gets its own market.
  • Percentage (odds): The crowd's view of a fighter's chance to win. 62% means a share costs about 62¢ and pays $1 if that fighter wins. See Reading the odds.
  • Share: One unit of a bet. Each share pays $1 if your pick wins and $0 if it loses.
  • Position: All the shares you hold on one side of one market. You'll find them in your Wallet under Positions.
  • To win: What your position pays if your pick wins: $1 for every share you hold.
  • Bet slip: The box on a fight page where you choose a side, enter an amount and place your bet.
  • Liquidity: How much money other people are putting into a market. Low liquidity means a big bet may fill at a worse price than the one you see.
  • Sell (cash out): Selling your position before the fight is decided, at the current price. You can end up with more or less than you paid. See Cashing out early.
  • Settle: When a fight has an official result and the market closes. Winning shares are worth $1, losing shares $0. See How bets settle.
  • Claim: Collecting your winnings after a market settles, which moves them into your Cash. Use Claim all on the Winnings ready to claim card, or Claim on one position. Some accounts claim automatically. See Claiming winnings.

Money

  • Wallet: Your personal safe on FightBets. Your Cash sits in it and belongs to you. See Your wallet.
  • Cash: The money in your wallet that's ready to bet with.
  • USDC: A digital dollar. One USDC is meant to be worth one US dollar. Your Cash is held in it.
  • Trading fee: A small fee the market charges on each bet, paid on top of your bet. It's about 2.5% of your bet on a 50% fighter, less on favorites, up to about 5% on long shots. FightBets charges no fee of its own. See Fees.
  • Network fee: A small fee the payment network charges to move money, paid to the network and not to FightBets. See Fees.
  • Deposit / Withdraw: Putting money into your wallet, or sending it out. See Adding funds and Withdrawing.
  • Coins: The free-to-play currency of the FightBets mobile app. Coins aren't Cash, and they don't exist on the website, where every bet is in USDC.
  • Promotional credit: Credit you collect from welcome actions. It's not Cash: you can't bet with it yet and you can't withdraw it. See Welcome rewards.

Competing

  • Leaderboard: The ranking of FightBets players. The Heavyweight board lists the top 100 by all-time cash betting volume. See Leaderboard.
